How to Crochet a Lace Scarf
The word 'crochet' comes from the French word for 'hook'. Using a small hook, you can create various loops and knots in a ball of yarn to create blankets, bags, clothing and accessories. A lace scarf is a simple project for beginning crocheters due to the simple pattern and repetition of stitches. A hook and some yarn are all you will need to create a scarf for yourself or a friend.

1
Leave a 2 inch tail of yarn and make a slip knot on your hook by making a loop in the yarn. Insert your hook through the loop and grab the yarn coming from the ball with your hook. Pull the yarn up through the loop and onto the hook.

Crochet 47 chain stitches. For each stitch, bring the yarn over your hook from behind. Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the loop already on the hook.

Turn your project and single crochet on the second chain stitch from the hook. To do this push your hook through the second chain stitch. Bring the yarn over your hook and pull it through the first loop on your hook. Bring the yarn over your hook again, but this time pull it through both loops. You should have one loop remaining on your hook.

Crochet 2 chain stitches and double crochet in the last single crochet stitch. Do this by bringing the yarn over your hook and inserting it into the third stitch from the hook. Bring the yarn over your hook again and pull through the first loop on the hook. Bring the yarn over your hook and pull it through the first 2 loops on your hook. Bring the yarn over your hook once more and pull it through the remaining 2 loops on the hook to complete the double crochet. Chain one stitch, turn the scarf and single crochet in the first stitch.
