How to Make a Bowl Fountain
The sound of gently flowing water adds a sense of serenity to a bedroom, home office or living room. With a few simple materials, you can make an attractive fountain in a bowl. Set your fountain on a flat table out of direct sunlight, which can speed evaporation. Use rocks, glass marbles and even silk flowers to decorate your fountain. Add water as needed and algaecide once a week to inhibit the growth of algae in your fountain.
Things You'll Need
- Large ceramic or glass bowl
- Small fountain pump
- Small clay or ceramic flower pot
- Clear plastic tubing
- Sharp scissors
- Water
- Algaecide

1
Place the large bowl on a table. Set the fountain pump in the bottom of the bowl.
-
2
Turn the flower pot upside down over the fountain pump. Choose the type of flower pot that has a single large drain hole in the middle. Center the drain hole over the outlet of the pump.

3
Fit a piece of clear plastic tubing over the outlet of the pump and run it up through the drain hole of the small pot. Trim the tubing with the scissors so that only 1/2 inch of tubing sticks out above the flower pot.
-
4
Arrange rocks, marbles, shells, bits of coral or other material around the flower pot.
-
5
Fill the large bowl with water. Add 1 tsp. of algaecide.
-
6
Plug in the pump. Adjust the inlet of the pump if the water spouts too high. The water will trickle out of the tube and flow over the rocks into the bowl and recycle itself.
