How to Remove Melted Crayon thumbnail
Remove melted crayon with ease.

When a crayon melts and dries onto a surface, it can be very difficult to remove if handled improperly. Crayons are made of wax-based material, and if the melted crayon dries quickly its color may not be absorbed into the surface. Lift the wax as soon as possible without setting it into the surface it has melted on to. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Removing Melted Crayon from Fabrics

    • 1

Scrape away as much crayon as possible with a butter knife. Use the dull edge to scrape, not rub, the melted crayon. Collect and discard the crayon shavings as they come away from the fabric.

    • 2

Turn on an iron to its lowest heat setting and place a paper bag over the melted crayon.

    • 3

Press the iron firmly over the paper bag. Hold for three seconds.

    • 4

Lift the paper bag and check to see how much of the crayon wax has been transferred onto the paper.

    • 5

Repeat this procedure, using a fresh area of the paper bag with each iron application. All wax will be lifted within a few presses of the iron.

Removing Crayon from Tile, Wood and Similar Surfaces

    • 6

Spray the melted crayon with a household lubricant spray. The greasy consistency will loosen the wax.

    • 7

Scrub the area with an old cleaning rag, collecting and discarding the wax as it is lifted.

    • 8

Repeat the spray and scrub process until all of the melted crayon has been removed.

    • 9

Wash the surface as you normally would to remove any greasy residue from the household lubricant spray.
