How to Make a Flower Ball Bouquet With Fake Flowers for Weddings

How to Make a Flower Ball Bouquet With Fake Flowers for Weddings thumbnail
Flower ball bouquets, also known as pomander bouquets, can have an elegant effect.

Fake flowers allow do-it-yourself brides to make their wedding day bouquet weeks in advance of the big day, reducing their stress and their to-do lists. Although some people think that all artificial flowers look too fake for a wedding, high-quality products are difficult to distinguish at first glance from the real thing. They also hold up much better over the course of the day than any fresh varieties could, especially important for heavily structured arrangements, such as a flower ball bouquet. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Spherical florist or polystryrene ball
  • Florist wire, 4 to 5 in. length
  • Artificial flower blooms, enough to cover the surface of the balll
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue
  • Ribbon, 1.5 to 2 ft. length

Instructions

    • 1

Bend your florist wire into an arc or a very loose "U" shape.

    • 2

Thread the curved wire into your florist or polystyrene ball and out of the ball again at a distance of about 1 to 2 inches. Twist the ends together, leaving a space between the wire and the ball just large enough to slip a ribbon through. Trim the ends of the wire. Where the wire sits on the ball is now the top.

    • 3

Remove the fake flower blooms from the stems.

    • 4

Glue the blooms to the ball with your hot glue gun, making sure to cover the entire surface of the ball except for the small wire loop at the top of the ball.

    • 5

Thread the ribbon through the wire loop at the top of the ball so that the midpoint of the ribbon is at the wire loop. Tie the ends of the ribbon together in a bow. The bride or her attendants hold the pomander ball by the ribbon, which dangles down.

    • 6

Glue on a few more blooms to cover the wire, making it look as though the ribbon is coming from within the top of the ball itself.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plan out your design on paper before you start gluing on any blooms.

  • After the glue has dried, shake it a bit to make sure that all the blooms are completely secure.
