How to Write the Perfect Maid of Honor Speech

As a maid of honor, one of your most important tasks will be delivering a speech or toast at the reception. Write the perfect speech that honors the couple. Although public speaking can be daunting, preparing and practicing your speech will leave you feeling confident on the big day.

Instructions

1. Start your speech by introducing yourself and how you know the bride. If the story of your initial meeting is funny or unusual, share it with the guests.

2. Tell a funny, non-embarrassing story about the couple. Check with the best man about his speech so that you don't repeat stories.

3. Include more serious thoughts about love and marriage. Read a short poem or use one to spur your own thoughts. End the speech by thanking the guests for coming and wishing the couple good luck.

4. Do not talk about sensitive subjects, such as politics, religion, sex or disagreements among the families. Check with the bride if you have doubts about any portion of your speech.

5. Manage your fear of public speaking by practicing in front of a mirror and a friend. Bring note cards to refer to if you lose your place. Relax and breathe deeply.
