How Do I Update My Roaming on Verizon Wireless?
A smart habit to acquire to lower your cell phone bill is updating your preferred roaming list (PRL) on a monthly basis. Particularly if you travel a lot, this can save you a great deal of money as you can update your phone to use roaming networks that are location-specific. Verizon updates its technology and agreements with other service providers frequently to offer you better roaming service, but unless you manually update your phone you will not be able to take advantage of this.

Turn your Verizon phone completely off. For models that do not power off (such as the Treo), choose the "Disconnect from Verizon" option on your menu.

Turn your phone back on or, select "Connect to Verizon" from your main menu.

Dial *228 and press "Send."

Listen to the options and when cued by the voice menu, press "2" on your keypad to update your preferred roaming list. Stay on the line until the recorded voice tells you the list is updated, then hang up.

Tips & Warnings
If you roam more than your plan allows in your home network, find a different provider that offers you the coverage you need to avoid excess roaming charges.
Watch your menu screen for the roaming icon, an updated PRL does not mean that you will roam less and you could run up a huge bill with Verizon if you are not paying attention to your status when calling.
