Toddlers and preschoolers love to help decorate for the holidays ' they can make lots of pretty tabletop decorations, with encouragement and a little help from an adult.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Candles
Step1
Buy a small evergreen or eucalyptus wreath ' real or artificial ' that you can lay flat on the table.
Step2
Get holiday craft "picks" from your local crafts store ' these usually contain silk or plastic flowers, ribbons or glitter, and sometimes tiny animals, birds, or wrapped "presents" wired together on a stick.
Step3
Let your child arrange the picks around the wreath, and set it on the table with a pillar or votive candle in the middle.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes, craft picks are too big to be used as-is ' just separate them, and let your child use the smaller components.
  • Take photographs of your children's handiwork. This will give you ' and them ' a permanent record of their early artistic efforts.
  • The wire or plastic sticks on craft picks can sometimes be sharp. If necessary, put masking tape over the tips.
  • Use candles carefully to avoid creating a fire hazard. Keep flammable objects well away from the candle wick and wherever the hot wax may drip.
  • Watch out for small objects that could be choking hazards, and always supervise your children's craftwork.
  • Never let your children use or touch a hot glue gun. Just use it yourself to help them finish their projects.
