How to Fix Chips in a Porcelain Sink

Porcelain sinks are made of durable protective materials and are a stylish addition to a kitchen or bathroom. Dropping a hard object into the sink such as a heavy pot, canned good or hair styling product can easily chip the surface. Large chips are better left for a professional to repair. Small chips are easy to fix if done correctly. Epoxy repair kits can be found in most hardware and home improvement stores. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase an epoxy repair kit that most resembles the color of your porcelain sink. Purchase two kits and mix the colors if your color is hard to locate.

    • 2

Clean and dry the sink. Sand the chipped area with sandpaper until it is smooth. Sand only the chipped area.

    • 3

Rub the chipped area with a clean rag dampened with rubbing alcohol. Remove all dust and debris. Allow it to dry.

    • 4

Mix the epoxy in the repair kit following the manufacturer's instructions. Apply the compound to the chipped area using a small brush or razor blade. Fill in the entire chipped area.

    • 5

Scrape away the compound using the razor blade so it is flush with the sink. Wipe up any excess compound surrounding the chip with a clean, damp rag.

    • 6

Allow the compound to dry. Do not use the sink for 24 hours so the compound can set. Do not scrub the repaired area for seven days.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear rubber gloves when repairing the sink to avoid any chemical reactions to the skin.
