Beets are red root vegetables. The red juice in the beets can easily splash on your white shirt when you are working with the beets. The dye from the beet juice is one of the hardest stains to remove. If you have the patience and the time, however, not all hope is lost. You can remove the beet juice from the white shirt so that it looks like new again.
Things You'll Need
- White bread
- Cold water
- Rubbing alcohol
- Cotton ball
- Stain stick
- Laundry detergent
- White distilled vinegar
Take the shirt off as soon as you get the beet juice on it. You don't want the juice to have time to set on the shirt.
Take a piece of white bread, and wet it with some cold water. Place the slice of bread over the beet juice stain. Keep the bread on the stain until it has absorbed some of the beet juice.
Throw the bread away, and hold the stained part of the shirt under a faucet of running cold water. This also will get some of the beet juice out.
Pour rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball, and use it to blot some of the beet juice out of the shirt.
Rinse the shirt under the cold water again. Use your fingers to work out the stain.
Rub a stain stick over the beet juice while the shirt is still wet. Let the shirt sit for 10 minutes.
Place the shirt in your washing machine with your regular detergent. Add 1/4 cup of vinegar. Wash as you normally would.
Remove the shirt from the washing machine, and check to see if the beet stain is completely gone. If it isn't, don't dry it.
Fill your sink with cold water, and add 1 cup bleach. Place the white shirt in the bleach water, and let it sit for 30 minutes.
Wash your shirt again in the washing machine with regular detergent to remove the stain.
Tips & Warnings
- Lemon juice is also a bleaching agent that you can use to try to remove your beet stain.
- Drying the shirt without first removing the stain will result in a permanent stain on your white shirt.
