How to Decorate Cakes With Gummy Bugs
Cakes are designed to enhance the fun of parties and special occasions. The decorations on the cake usually go along with the theme for the party, which can be a great outlet for creativity. Some cakes only have gummy bugs on top with other decorating illusions, but some can even be stuffed with them. Many children love bugs and spiders and using gummy bugs as decorations on a cake goes a long way to making a bug-themed party a success. Does this Spark an idea?

Prepare and bake a cake mix in a 9x13 rectangular pan according to the directions on the package. Prepare a second mix and bake it in an oven-safe half-quart glass bowl. Allow them to cool.
-
2
Remove the rectangular cake, or "base," from the baking pan and set it on a cake dish. Frost it with chocolate frosting.

-
3
Remove the second cake from the glass bowl and turn it upside down. Set it on one side of the rectangular cake. This is the hill. Frost the hill with the chocolate frosting.
-
4
Place chocolate cookies in a self-sealing plastic bag and crush them into crumbs. Spread the crumbs over the frosting on the base and the hill of the cake.
-
5
Set gummy bugs into the frosting all over the cake. If you want to get creative, partially bury some bugs in the frosting so it looks as if they are digging their way out.

Tips & Warnings
If you do not like chocolate, try a buttercream frosting dyed brown with a mix of food coloring colors. The Food Network has a simple recipe for it.
Other cake designs can incorporate gummy bugs as well. Try a snake cake with gummy bugs spread around, or a spider cake with gummy bugs in the body as filling.
