Candle wax is difficult to remove from most fabrics. However, accidents do happen. Silk is a very delicate fabric and if candle wax is spilled on a silk shirt, it requires special attention to get it out.

Remove any wax that has not sunk into the fabric. The best way to do this is to place the silk shirt into the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes until the wax becomes brittle.

Check the care instructions for the silk shirt to see what setting is recommended for ironing. You will want to use either a low or medium setting. Switch the iron on to the desired setting.

Put one brown paper bag on the ironing board. Put the stained area of the shirt over the paper bag in a single layer. Place the second paper bag down over the stain.

Press the iron down on the paper bag over the wax stain. You are going to be melting the wax on the shirt and the paper bags will absorb it. Don’t move the iron back and forth, just press it down for 2-3 seconds and then lift it up. Check the paper bags to see if some wax has been absorbed away from the shirt on the bags.

Adjust the paper bags so that clean portions will be under the iron. If you don’t move the bags, you could wind up getting the wax you have removed back on the shirt. Continue to press and lift the iron and adjust the paper bags until you have removed all the wax.
