How to Design an Exotic Theme Room
Designing any room in your house to stay within a particular theme creates a specific mood and ambiance, as well as making it easier to figure out if certain items fit within the room or not. Turn your living or bedroom into an exotic jungle for something different, or decorate it using exotic animals as your inspiration and focus. Determine what specific exotic theme you'd like to use in your room. Choose a tropical beach theme, jungle safari or exotic fish. The specific exotic theme will dictate your color scheme and should complement the furniture in the room. For example, a contemporary room decorated in jungle animal prints such as leopard or zebra, would coordinate with dark wood and white or cream furniture.

Paint or decorate the walls to coordinate with the theme. If painting each wall would overwhelm you or the space, paint one accent wall. For a tropical beach theme, paint the walls sky blue or coral, or paint a beach scene, surfboards or use cream with a border of tropical flowers such as orchids. Paint the walls beige, sky blue, use bamboo to cover the walls, a border of zebra or tiger stripes or paint trees and lush grass for a jungle safari or exotic animal theme. Create an underwater wonder for a tropical fish theme by painting the walls blue with air bubbles and fish.

Place your furniture in a way that shows off creative theme murals, paintings or pieces. For a tropical beach theme, use rattan or wicker furniture. Use white or cream with chocolate brown or black for an exotic animal theme. White furniture with straight lines or light wood would work for an exotic fish theme.

Use bedding, throws, pillows and accessories to introduce the patterns that will pull the room together. Seashells, surfboard shelves, pale vases with orchids (silk is fine) are items that can pull a tropical-themed room together. Zebra, leopard and tiger prints are perfect choices to bring an exotic animal-themed room together. Mix in splashes of pink or turquoise to add a soft, feminine twist. Use bright colors and prints of fish on pillows or artwork for a tropical fish theme.

Complete the room with accessories such as houseplants--real or silk. Choose plants that add to the feel of the exotic theme you're going for. For example, use palm trees for a beach theme.

Spread out accessories with strong colors or patterns, or use a cluster of contrasting patterns. For example, pile rows of pillows featuring different animal prints including zebra stripes, leopard spots and tiger stripes on a plain white or black comforter or duvet. Tie in the prints through a border, rug, pictures on an opposite wall or placing a throw on a chair in an opposing corner.
Avoid adding too many patterns as this will overload your senses when you walk into the room and create a chaotic atmosphere.
