How to Clean a Viscose Area Rug
Viscose is a man-made fiber created from wood pulp. An inexpensive product that dyes easily and is non-static in nature, viscose is often referred to as rayon, faux silk and artificial silk. Viscose is a less expensive alternative to real silk because of its shiny, silky quality. Viscose fibers can be dyed with brilliant color. An inexpensive fiber to work with, manufacturers have flooded the marketplace novelty and patterned rugs made from viscose. Unfortunately viscose does not stand up well to constant wear and tear. Take the rug outside and shake it to release dirt and debris.

Vacuum the rug without using a beater attachment; use the suction devices instead.

Apply a spot remover to any spots on the rug.

Dry the wet areas quickly. Use an air mover (like a fan), dehumidifier or other type of drying equipment to speed the process.

Tips & Warnings
Viscose fiber breaks easily when wet and must be dried quickly to prevent microbial growth---remember this fiber contains a natural ingredient, cellulose.
Viscose is prone to shrinking when water soaked and has a tendency to "bleed" dye. Using large amounts of water is not a way to clean this type of rug. Dry cleaning is an option.
