Holly leaf Christmas ornaments

Make holly leaf Christmas ornaments to decorate your tree. Gather the kids to help make these easy ornaments shaped like a holly leaf that go together quickly and easily.

Younger children who are too young to use a needle and thread can help pick the felt or fabric colors and the trim and embellishments. Older kids can do the actual sewing to make their own ornaments.

Gather the supplies listed in the Things You’ll Need section. Get creative in choosing felt colors or fabric for this simple craft. Heavier fabric with a small print works well to make these holly leaf ornaments.

  2. Step 2
Draw and cut out a holly leaf design as a template.

Draw a holly leaf design on a piece of paper. Cut it out then pin the template on to the fabric or felt. Cut out two leaves per ornament.

Let younger kids choose two different colors of felt or use the same color fabric or felt.

  3. Step 3
Top stitch on felt or fabric.

Sew down the middle of each holly leaf, starting at the tip of the leaf and top stitch down to the stem. Use a contrasting color of thread so the stitches show.

  4. Step 4
Tack down the trim to create the hanger.

Select the trim to make the hanger for the ornament. Cut a generous length so it will be able to hang on a Christmas tree easily, at least 8 inches.

Place the two stems so they overlap. Set the trim/hanger on top of the stems about one-half inch down from the tip of the stem. Cross the trim to create the look of a bow.

Sew the trim down by tacking it in place.
