How to Remove Pencil Marks From Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is a common flooring material in homes. It is sturdy, looks nice and most stains or spills will wipe up easily. If you have children, you may encounter pencil marks on the ceramic tile. These pencil marks can be removed in minutes with inexpensive supplies.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

White or pink eraser
Dish detergent
Sponge
Spray bottle
Distilled white vinegar
Cloth

Step 1

Erase as much of the pencil mark as you can with a clean white or pink eraser. This may remove the pencil marks completely. Smudges may still be left behind, however, which will require additional cleaning.
Step 2

Scrub the tile with dish detergent and a sponge. Clean the entire tile to remove any pencil marks or unseen smudges that may have been left behind.
Step 3

Fill a spray bottle with water and add 2 tbsp. of distilled white vinegar. Spray the tile with the mixture, and scrub with a sponge or a cloth. If any marks are left, add more vinegar and use more pressure when scrubbing.

Tips & Warnings

Using glazed ceramic tile in rooms where children frequently play can protect the floors from stray pencil marks. The glazed tiles are harder to mark on and easier to clean.
Avoid using bleach on tiles, and only use soft materials---such as a sponge or cloth---to scrub. Harsh cleaning agents and stiff bristled scrub brushes can wear down the finish of the tile over time. A small amount of bleach diluted in at least a gallon of water will not hurt, but only use it as a last resort.
