How to Use Lysol on Carpet

Commercial carpet cleaning solutions may help lift dirt and stains from your carpet, but often the fragrance added to those cleaners causes problems for people with allergies. While Lysol that comes in the old, brown bottle is not the most pleasant smelling of cleaning products, many people find that it doesn't trigger an allergic reaction, and it does as good a job or better than more expensive commercial carpet cleaning products. Since Lysol is also a disinfectant, using Lysol to clean your carpets will ensure your carpets are free of mites and germs and are clean. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Pour a bottle of brown Lysol liquid into a gallon sprayer or the sprayer of a carpet cleaning machine. Fill the remainder of the sprayer or carpet cleaning machine with hot water.

    • 2

Saturate the carpet with the Lysol cleaning solution, and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes. If your carpet is installed over a wood floor, spray the carpet with a lighter coat of cleaner or you may damage the wood beneath.

    • 3

Extract the cleaning solution from the carpet with a shop vacuum or carpet cleaning machine.

Tips & Warnings

  • Test the Lysol on an inconspicuous area of the carpet the night before you plan to clean. Check the carpet in the morning for staining or fading.

  • Place fans in the room to help the carpet dry faster.
