How to Get Wax Off of a Candlestick Holder

Candle wax can be removed quite easily from a candleholder. There are methods for removing it while it is still liquid or warm and also after it has hardened. Keeping your candlestick holder clean is important not only for aesthetic appeal but also for ensuring the lit candle stays in place. A leaning candle may fall or drip hot wax onto other surfaces and ruin them.

Things You'll Need

• Candlestick holder
• Cookie sheet
• Oven
• Rag
• Butter knife

Instructions

1. Determine the type of material your candleholder is made of before using the oven to remove the wax.

2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for sturdy materials like steel or glass. For weaker materials like pewter or wood, preheat the oven to only 275 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.

3. Place the candlestick holders onto the cookie sheet and put them into the oven.

4. Take the candleholders out of the oven after 10 minutes. If the wax does not come off easily with your fingers or a rag, put them back in the oven. Try again in 5 minutes.

5. Remove the wax with a rag or your fingers by simply rubbing it or pushing it away from the candlestick holder. For intricate details on the candleholder, use a butter knife to scrape the wax out.

6. Remove the wax from your candlestick holders as soon as you snuff out the flame of the candle. Warm wax is much easier to remove and can be pushed off with a rag.

Tips & Warnings

• For extremely delicate candleholders, place the item into the freezer for about an hour and then attempt to remove the wax with a butter knife. Delicate candleholders may also be placed in a very warm tub or bowl of water to soften the wax before removing. Apply oily cleaning products to the wax to loosen it.

• Do not leave the candlestick holders in the oven long enough to turn the wax to liquid as this can compromise the materials.
