Pick a single red to tie the whole room together. All the items in the room can contain other shades, but they should have that red somewhere on them. Paint the walls this color.

Think patterns. Go for patterned bedding, furniture and window treatments. Keep the tie-in color incorporated in them. Choose any pattern, from stripes to polka dots to flowers. The more patterns, the more contrast and interest there is in the room.

Use contrast. White is a great color to use in splashes in a red room to create a stark contrast of colors. Use the contrasting color on furniture or accessories such as large vases and picture frames.

Think baseboards. For a touch of elegance, add baseboards and crown molding to the walls and ceiling. Paint the molding white to stand out against the red walls.
