Instructions

    • 1

Wet the mascara stain with water. Begin to rub bar soap into the stain to remove all traces of the mascara, or as best as possible. Wash the stain with warm water and then launder the clothing as directed on the label.

    • 2

Inspect the item of clothing. Wet the stain with water if the mascara stain was not completely removed in the wash. Apply dish detergent directly to the stain and rub it in until the stain disappears. Rinse the stain with warm water and launder as directed.

    • 3

Take the wet shirt and apply shampoo directly to the stain, if it has not been removed. Rub the shampoo into the stain until the stain disappears. Launder as directed. This method can be used in addition to Step 1 and 2 or in place of either step, depending on the items you have readily available at home.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure to attempt your stain removal as soon as possible after the stain occurs. If the stain sets in for more than 24 hours, it will be harder to remove in the long run. Sometimes just applying water to a fresh stain is all it takes; other times, for more stubborn stains, all three steps will be needed.

  • Do not dry the item of clothing until the stain is completely removed. Drying it will set the stain. Once you have run the item of clothing through the wash one time, inspect the stain to see if it has been removed. If so, dry as directed on the label. If not, attempt another stain removal (step 1, 2, or 3) and re-launder. Repeat until the stain is completely removed. Once removed, it is then appropriate to dry as directed.
