Hanukkah Coffee/Wine Baskets
Hanukkah Coffee/Wine Baskets

Here are ten gift ideas you can make for Hanukkah this year. You can give them individually or as part of a coffee gift basket or wine basket!
Most items can be made from Dollar Store or Thrift Store finds, so this is a very affordable way to make holiday gift baskets.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Various Dollar store finds
  • Hanukkah themed fabric
  • Bottle of wine or pound of coffee
  1. Step 1

    1. PERSONALIZED COFFEE MUG
Purchase a plain mug at a dollar store. If you are making this for Hanukkah, select a blue mug. Go online and find the Hebrew spelling for your recipient's name. Write in in pencil on the mug. With a Porcelaine pen from a craft store, paint the letters on the mug. Allow to dry and bake as directed on the porcelaine pen.
(Obviously, this idea will go in your coffee basket)

  2. Step 2

    2. HANUKKAH COASTERS
Buy a packet of foam sheets at a dollar store. Make a circle pattern out of card stock paper and use it to draw several circles on the blue foam. Cut these circles out. Using the card stock circle, draw the outline of a star of David on it. Cut it out and use it as a pattern for white foam stars. Cut the stars out with a scissors, then cut small triangles inside as shown with a utility knife. Glue the white star on the blue circle.
This simple item will serve for both a wine basket or coffee basket.

    3. HANUKKAH SERVING PLATTER
Buy a plain platter at your local dollar store. Write a Jewish blessing on the outer rim with a dry eraser pen. Using a blue Vitrea pen (which you can buy at a craft store), write over the dry eraser markings. Allow to dry and bake as directed on the Vitrea pen.

  4. Step 4

    4. HANUKKAH DOORKNOB HANGER
Using the same foam you bought for the coasters, make a doorknob sign with a Hanukkah design of your choice (ask a local motel if they will give you a generic doorknob sign for you to use as a pattern). Write Happy Hannukah on the doorknob hanger with a sharpie or with blue glitter puff paint.
This fun-to-make item will be ideal for any gift basket.

    5. HANUKKAH AROMA TRIVET
Buy a pretty Hanukkah-themed fabric. Cut two hearts out of the material, large enough to use as a trivet under an average pot. Put the two pieces together--back sides together--and stitch around the trivet with a thread color you want to show, leaving a small gap on one of the sides for stuffing it. Stitch the center together. Fill the trivet with flax seed, cloves and the contents of several Constant Comment tea bags. Stitch the trivel closed. Cut around the edges with a pinking shears.

    6. DOOR DRAFT SNAKE
Using a velvety, blue fabric, and a plain piece of cotton fabric, cut two pieces (one of each fabric) measuring 9" by 46". Put the cotton fabric on the reverse side of the blue fabric and baste the edges. Fold the fabric together with the right sides of the blue fabric folded onto each other. Stitch the bottom and sides 1/2 inch in with a very small stitch. Turn door snake inside out and fill with sand or styrofoam pellets. Tie the unsewn end into a knot.

    7. NECK WARMER
This is the same basic principle as the draft snake. Find a pretty Hanukkah-themed fabric and cut a piece about 9" by 30". Fold over with right sides together and sew a 1/2" seam around the whole tube leaving a 2" opening. Turn inside out and fill with rice or flax seed. Sew opening shut.
This is great for Nana or Papa to stick in the microwave and keep their necks cozy warm in the winter.

  8. Step 8

    8. PERSONALIZED HANUKKAH WINE GLASS
Buy a plain wine glass at a dollar store. Using a blue Vitrea glass pen, paint stars and curls directly on the glass. Allow to dry and bake as directed on the paint pen.
This gift will go in your wine basket.

    9. DREIDEL COOKIES
If you can find a dreidel cookie cutter, make cookies in the shape of a dreidel and give a dozen in a cellophane gift bag. If you don't have a cookie cutter, use frosting to paint a dreidel shape on any sugar or gingersnap cookie. Use this gift for either gourmet coffe or wine basket.

    10. GIFT BASKETS
With the gift suggestions above, you can put together two different gift baskets. For a gourmet coffee gift basket, place the personalized mug, the coasters, the doorknob hanger, and the bag of cookies in a basket. Add a pound of your favorite coffee, wrap with clear cellophane, and top with a blue bow.
For a wine basket, place two decorated wine glasses, the coasters, and the cookies in a basket. Add a bottle of your favorite wine and hook the doorknob hanger on the bottle of wine. Wrap in cellophane and top with a bow.
