This is the way that I get grease and dried on or baked on food off of the pots and pans in my house. Sometimes you jsut don't feel like scrubbing your arm off so this is what you do.
Let the pan cool down if it already hasn't then fill up the skillet, pan, or pot with water.
Put the item on the stove and heat to boil. When the water comes to a boil, turn it down to a simmer. The boiling water and steam should help loosen up the baked on crumbs and grease off of the pot. Boil for about 20 minutes.
Let the pot cool down and THEN attempt scrubbing with a scrub brush or a piece of steel wool. The dirt should come off the pot completely if not, either repeat process or fill the pot with diluted bleach water, soak overnight then rinse.
