Preparing a perfect barbecue meal is often guesswork. Using a grill thermometer helps not only to ensure the perfect meal, but that the temperature of the food is sufficient. Installing a grill thermometer is fairly easy, and the benefits will be a perfect barbecue meal every time.
Things You'll Need
- Grill thermometer
- Barbecue grill
Purchase a grill thermometer at your local hardware store.
Drill a hold 3 to 4 inches above the grate in the grill or smoker lid. For a rectangular grill, it should be 3 to 6 inches. For a kettle, drill 3 to 4 inches above the grate and a couple inches to the side of the lid vent.
Remove nut from the thermometer stem and insert through the hole.
Secure the nut.
Tips & Warnings
- Purchase a thermometer that reads in degrees not one that just gives a general temperature gauge such as warm/medium/hot.
- Do not attempt to install when grill is hot. Keep drill out of the reach of children.
