Stains can be a real eyesore. From walls to floors, stains seem to appear out of nowhere. Removing stains from your basement's cement floor is a chore. You don't want to use a harsh chemical to remove the stains but you do want to get the task done quickly. With the right directions and cleaning solution, you can remove stains on concrete floors in no time.
Things You'll Need
- Rubber gloves
- Safety goggles
- Nose mask
- Dust pan
- Chlorine bleach
- Warm water
- Sand paper, 150-grit
- Sanding block
- Scouring pad
Sweep the entire basement floor to remove any loose dust, dirt or debris. Wear rubber gloves, a nose mask and safety goggles.
Damp mop the stained areas on the cement floor. Use warm water.
Mix two tbsp. of chlorine bleach and 10 cups of warm water in a bucket. Agitate the mixture gently by shaking the bucket.
Use 150-grit sandpaper to sand down any stain consisting of oil, grease or heavy grime, then move on to Step 5. If your stain is not oil, grease or heavy grime, skip this step and go directly to Step 5.
Dip a scouring pad into the bleach/water mixture and apply a small amount of the solution to the first stain you want to remove.
Scrub the stain, dip pad back into the bucket and scrub again until the stain is removed. Do not flood the stain with the mixture. Just use enough of the mixture to remove the stain.
Damp mop the area where the stain was and let the area air dry.
Repeat steps for any other stains you want to remove.
Tips & Warnings
- Open any doors or windows leading into and out of the basement so you will have proper ventilation before beginning the cleaning project.
