How to Care for Cold Sores

Cold sores are caused by an infection. Follow these steps to ease the pain and to get rid of the cold sore.

Instructions

1. Dont eat or drink after anyone. You can contract cold sores this way and its always best to use your own silverware or glass.

2. Go to the pharmacy and get cold sore treatment. These medications shorten the healing time and are best when used when you first notice the cold sore.

3. Throw your toothbrush away and get a new one. If you use the same toothbrush it can cause you to reinfect yourself or spread the cold sore to another area of your mouth.

4. Limit your intake of chocolate, caffeine, nuts and alcohol as these will cause the infection to get worse.

5. Keep area of the cold sore moist with chapstick to help with healing and to avoid painful cracking.

6. No kissing. Lock them lips up for 24 hours after the cold sore has disappeared to make sure infection is completely gone.
