Cold sores are caused by an infection. Follow these steps to ease the pain and to get rid of the cold sore.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Dont eat or drink after anyone. You can contract cold sores this way and its always best to use your own silverware or glass.

  2. Step 2

Go to the pharmacy and get cold sore treatment. These medications shorten the healing time and are best when used when you first notice the cold sore.

  3. Step 3

Throw your toothbrush away and get a new one. If you use the same toothbrush it can cause you to reinfect yourself or spread the cold sore to another area of your mouth.

  4. Step 4

Limit your intake of chocolate, caffeine, nuts and alcohol as these will cause the infection to get worse.

  5. Step 5

Keep area of the cold sore moist with chapstick to help with healing and to avoid painful cracking.

  6. Step 6

No kissing. Lock them lips up for 24 hours after the cold sore has disappeared to make sure infection is completely gone.
