How to Make Your Own Herbal Essence Oil

Herbal essence oil---for baths or massage---is normally sold in 2- to 4-ounce bottles and can be very expensive. Imagine enjoying more than just two drops in your bath--- you could make gallons of your own herbal essence oil for a fraction of the price. Now you can enjoy all the benefits of natural herbal essence oils every day. They can be used for deep tissue massage, personal lubricant, dry skin, wrinkles, eczema, burns, scrapes, blemishes, and much more.

  • Oil of your choice
  • Dried herb of your choice

  1. Making Herbal Essence Oil

    • 1

      Choose one of the following oils according to your needs:

      Extra-Virgin Olive: For massage, body, lubricating, foot, hair, or healing oils
      Grape Seed: For face, blemish control, and sensitive skin oils
      Jojoba: For body and bath oils

      And one or more of these herbs:

      Arnica: For massage, burns, bruises, and dry skin
      Calendula Flower: For scrapes, cuts, dry skin, dry feet, bathing, dry hair, and cracked skin
      Lobelia Flower: For skin diseases, eczema, blisters, rashes, bathing, and massage
      Chamomile flower: For bathing, body moisturizing, face, and massage
      Rose Geranium Flowers: For wrinkles, blemishes, and facial moisturizing
      Lavender: For bathing and massage
      Lemongrass: For bathing, massage, facial moisturizing, blemishes, and dry skin

      Combine 2 parts oil for every 1 part dried herb into one of your glass jars.
      For example, use 1 cup of dried herb with 2 cups of oil.

      Cover and place the jar in sunlight for two weeks.

      Shake your oil-herb mixture once a day.

      Strain your oil into another clean glass jar. Cover your herbal essence oil and store it indoors.

Tips & Warnings

  • Organic or wildcrafted dried herbs make the highest quality herbal essence oils. Herbal essence oils can also be used to make salves: Melt 1/4 cup of beeswax in a double boiler and add 1 cup of essence oil, mix, place in a jar, and refrigerate until firm.

  • Anything you put on your skin is absorbed into your body, so check with your doctor before using any new herbs, especially if you're taking prescription medications.
