How to Size Coveralls

Coveralls have been around for a long time. Originally worn over regular clothing, they were designed to be used by workers who needed protection on the job. Since their creation, coveralls have evolved. They are no longer only worn by industrial workers. You can spot individuals wearing them as a fashion statement. If you want to sport a pair of coveralls, you need to know how to properly size them to get the right fit.

1. Use a measuring tape to get the correct neck size. The neck should be measured toward the base of the neck, in the collar area. Write down the neck measurement in inches.

2. Get arm/sleeve measurements by raising the arm to shoulder level. Bend the arm inward, as if performing a "salute" that is at neck level. The hand should be at the front of the neck.

   Place the measuring tape at the bottom center of the back of the neck. Measure from the center of the neck to the wrist. If you like, you can do this by breaking the measurement into two segments, from center of neck to elbow, and from elbow to wrist. Write down the sleeve measurements in inches.

3. Measure the chest/bust area. To do this, extend both arms to shoulder level. Wrap the measuring tape from the back shoulder blades area, underneath both arms, and around to the front. The measuring tape should meet at the widest area of the chest/bust to get the best measurement. Record the measurement in inches.

4. Take the waist measurements by wrapping the measuring tape around the waist. Record the measurement in inches.

5. Get the length/inseam measurements. The inseam measurement is taken by measuring the length from the crotch to the top of the foot. There are two ways you can get the inseam measurements.
   You can have the individual hold the top of the measuring tape on the seam of his crotch area while you hold the bottom of the tape on top of his foot to read the measurement.

   Or you can take a pair of long pants that naturally fall at the top of her shoes. Lay the pants on a flat surface. Measure the length from the crotch of the pants to the bottom hem of the pants leg. Record the inseam measurement.

6. Take all of your measurements, neck, sleeve, chest, and inseam, and go to your local coveralls store. Look on the product tags for the coveralls until you find a pair that has the neck, sleeve, chest, and inseam measurements that matches yours. If you want the coveralls to fit looser, you can add a couple of inches to the neck, chest, and waist.

7. Get someone to assist you if you are taking measurements for yourself to ensure that your measurements are exact.
