How to Clean Off Algae From Lawn Furniture

Melissa Rae

Lawn furniture is commonly exposed to the elements for most of the summer season, making it a perfect place for algae to grow. Sitting water combined with sunlight can feed the algae, leaving green or brown stains on the lawn furniture. Clean the algae and remove any stains with common household items, and store the furniture in a dry place to keep algae from coming back.

  1. Add 3/4 cup bleach and 1 tbsp. laundry detergent to a bucket. Fill the bucket with 1 gallon warm water.

  2. Move the lawn furniture to a safe place away from any garden plants or flowers, such as a patio or driveway. The bleach solution may drip, and could possibly harm your plants.

  3. Dip a sponge or scrub brush in the bucket, and scrub the lawn furniture to clean off any algae. Allow the mixture to sit on the lawn furniture for at least five minutes to kill the algae.

  4. Rinse the lawn furniture thoroughly with a garden hose. Dry it with a towel.
