Christmas stockings are a standard for Christmas decorations, but mini Christmas stocking ornaments are really easy to make and attractive on any size Christmas tree.

Sewing a Christmas stocking in a small size can be done by hand, even if you do not have a sewing machine. Using fabrics that do not fray makes it even easier.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Felt or fleece fabric
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread or sewing machine

Make a pattern for a Christmas stocking you like. They come in many shapes, but the sizes are about 6 inches at the longest, and 3 1/4 inches at the smallest.

Add about 1/4 inch around the pattern for the seam. Cut two of the pattern, and a loop for hanging. You may sew right sides together and turn the stocking, or you may just leave the edges flat and sew with wrong sides together.

  3. Step 3

Add a top of a different fabric if you wish, and it is just a straight piece in the width you choose. Sew the right side of the fabric to the wrong side (inside of the stocking) and then turn it to the outside.

Add a small loop hanger to the mini Christmas stocking. If you are using felt or fleece, cut a straight flat strip and sew it on the inside of the top of the stocking. You may also choose to use ribbon for a hanger.

  5. Step 5

Add any decoration you choose. Small appliques, braid, or ribbon are pretty on these. The mini Christmas stockings are now ready to hang on your tree. If you make small ones, they will work on a mini tree. If you make some in about the six-inch size, they are great for a large tree.
