1
Cut the trellis to the height and width of the section of chain link fence you wish to decorate. You also may want to paint or stain the trellis before putting it up to add a more decorative touch.
-
2
Affix the trellis to the chain link fence using wire ties. Place them about every foot or so around the perimeter of the fence and secure the middle of the trellis with several wire ties as well.

3
Plant climbing plants along the base of the trellis and fence. Look for fence eaters such as morning glory, honeysuckle and ivy. For full coverage, plant a vine about every eight inches along the fence. Add more space for a more spread-out look.
-
4
Trim the vines as needed and help to guide them along the trellis. Over time, the vines may become unruly and look messy. Use gardening tools to trim the vines where needed. If any of the vines fall off of the trellis, replace them by weaving them between the wood.

5
Add another trellis or two if you want to cover more than one section of our fence. Or plant more climbing vines along the fence, leaving a single trellis as the focal point.
