How to Make Eggshell People

These eggshell people are easy to make and silly to look at. Kids will love watching the "hair" grow. Plus, it will help teach them responsibility when they are put in charge of watering the little people every day.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut the tops off several uncooked eggs by gently cracking the shell around the narrow end with the blade of a kitchen knife. The shell should break away clean at that point so you will have deep shells perfect for planting. Use or save the eggs for cooking.

  2. Step 2

Rinse the shells with fresh water and allow them to dry for a day or so.

  3. Step 3

Fill the clean, dry shells with fresh potting soil.

  4. Step 4

Sprinkle grass seed or any type of small seed on the surface of the soil.

  5. Step 5

Water the seeds using a spray mist bottle each day. In a few days, the grass will sprout and begin to grow.

  6. Step 6

Draw faces on the shells with crayons, felt-tip pens or paint once the grass (or "hair") is growing lush.

  7. Step 7

Use pipe cleaners or paper cutouts to make glasses or silly neckties.

Tips & Warnings
  • Save an old egg carton to display your egg people, or use individual egg cups.
  • Collars made from stiff cardboard will support the egg people, too.
  • Once the "hair" grows too long, give it a haircut with scissors; it will grow again.
