How to Make a No-Sew Halter Top thumbnail
Giselle and Brittany are a living wondow display for homemade halters.

You have an over-sized T-shirt and you don't know what to do with it. Never fear. It is easy to turn that jumbo, dress-like monstrosity into a cute halter top in an hour. And the best part is you never need to touch a needle and thread or a sewing machine, so it's a great project no matter what your skill level.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay out the T-shirt and cut from just under the sleeves to about 2 inches away from the collar on either side.

    • 2

Put on the shirt and mark the length you desire. Then pull it to the fit you want and mark the sides at the width that's comfortable for you.

    • 3

Cut off the excess from the bottom and set it aside for later use. Along the sides, cut 1-inch thick strips up to the line you made to mark how tight you want your halter top.

    • 4

Tie the 1-inch strips together all the way down either side, connecting the front of the shirt to the back of the shirt.

    • 5

Lay down the shirt with the back facing you, and cut along the back of the shirt from under one sleeve to the other to open the back; do not cut the collar to separate the pieces.

    • 6

Turn the shirt over so the front is facing you, and cut out the collar and cut off the excess from the back in a "v' shape, to create ties to hold the shirt on.

    • 7

Try on the shirt and make any needed adjustments.

Tips & Warnings

  • Get creative with where you tighten your shirt. If ties down the sides don't work for you, try ties down the back. Add darts to the sides of the bosom if you know how to sew even a little, to give the shirt a more fitted look.

  • Always cut less than you have to and go back to trim up the excess. If you cut too much off, you can't fix it.
