Things You'll Need:
- Clorox Spray Cleaner
- or Bleach
- or Lemon juice
- sunshine
- time, patience and elbow grease
-
Step 1
First and foremost, if you haven't yet stained your precious plasticware take these precautions to insure it will never happen.
If you've made your famous tomato-bolognese sauce and have leftovers remember to let it COOL before putting it in your white plasticware. You may even want to spray a bit of non-stick spray in your tupperware first. This will prevent any stains from occurring. But never under any circumstances heat up your sauce in the microwave while its in a plastic container. Not only is it toxic (as it may add melted plastic particles to your food), but it ruins a good container. Always take the sauce or soup out of the plastic container to heat it up.
Always rinse tupperware in cold water and dish soap immediately after pouring the sauce in the pan to heat it up again and you'll never have any problems. -
Step 2
Ok, so maybe you forgot to let your sauce cool before putting it in the tupperware, or maybe someone put it in the microwave to heat it up and now you've got yourself a nasty stain on your beautiful white container. Don't worry, we can fix it..at least most of the time (if it's not too far gone already). The first thing I always do is rinse with COLD soapy water.
-
Step 3
If that doesn't work, try spraying with Clorox spray cleaner (or a little bleach) and fill with water. Set it in the sunshine for a bit to let the suns rays work their magic and again, rinse with cold water. (Don't use the hot water until all stains are out). This technique usually gets the stains out.
If you find after these steps that there are still stains in the plastic, it may need to sit in the sun longer.
You can always try rubbing lemon juice or a baking soda and water paste mixture on the stains and setting it in the sun as well. -
Step 4
After you've removed all stains from your container, wash it again with hot soapy water to remove any bleach or cleaning residue as you don't want to be eating Clorox. Not only will it poison you, it won't taste very good. After your tupperware is nice and clean, you may want to set it in the sun again to dry, this will whiten your plasticware even more and if you're lucky, it may look like brand new again.
