Vomit stains are a part of life with children or pets. In addition, ill adults may accidentally vomit on the carpet when they cannot make it to the bathroom. Getting vomit stains out of carpet can become a chore, as scrubbing is harmful to the carpet. Thus, it is important to clean up vomit on carpet right away. This is because once the vomit sits it becomes a hard substance. Removing the vomit after a while can damage the fibers in the carpet and leave lasting carpet destruction.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper towels
  • Carpet stain remover
  • Bowl
  • Sponge
  • Towel
  1. Step 1

Clean up the excess vomit immediately. If possible, it is important to remove standing vomit right away. Blot the stain with two or three paper towels. If you must rub, do so gently. Use additional paper towels to pick up the remaining vomit.

  2. Step 2

Spray the carpet stain remover in an unnoticeable area, to test for changes in your carpet color. Use Eliminator Carpet Spot & Stain Remover, Oxy Clean Carpet Spot Stain Remover or an equivalent product. Wait approximately three minutes to check the condition before continuing.

  3. Step 3

Fill the bowl with steaming water. Dunk the sponge into the bowl. Wring the surplus of water out. Blot the area to get the spot moist. Rinse the sponge and blot the spot again.

  4. Step 4

Spray roughly five or six squirts of the carpet stain remover on the vomit stain. Read the specific instructions on the carpet cleaner of your choice. Typically, you will leave the remover on the carpet for roughly eight minutes.

  5. Step 5

Blot the vomit stain once again with the damp sponge. Dip the sponge and repeat the process three or four times. Press on the stain firmly to get the vomit out of the carpet.

  6. Step 6

Use the towel to dry the area of the carpet. Again, do not rub as this can harm the fibers. Blot forcefully to bring up as much liquid as possible. Lay the towel loosely over the area and finish letting it air dry.
