Things You'll Need

  • Saucepan
  • Oil
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Balsamic or red wine vinegar
  • Apple or white grape juice
  • Merlot wine
  • Dried rosemary and thyme
  • Cream
  • Cutting board
  • Utility knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon
  • Metal strainer

Instructions

    • 1

      Chop 1/2 cup onion finely and mince 1 tbsp. garlic on the cutting board.

      Measure 2 tbsp. oil into the saucepan and heat over medium heat. Add the garlic and onion and stir while cooking for approximately five minutes.

      Measure 2 tbsp. vinegar, 2 cups of juice, 1/2 cup wine and the herbs and add to the saucepan.

      Stir and boil the sauce mixture and then turn the heat down to a simmer.

      Cook the sauce for approximately 20 minutes until about 1 1/2 cups of sauce remains. Stir often during the cooking time.

      Pour the sauce through a metal strainer to remove the herbs and then pour it back into the saucepan. Add 1/2 cup cream and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for approximately 10 minutes. Remove from the heat when the sauce is of medium consistency.

      Pour the sauce over cooked meat, chicken or fish to serve.
