Most mai tai drinks are garnished with a pineapple slice and an umbrella.

The name mai tai is derived from a Tahitian word for "good," which is how most of the drinks turn out. Like most mai tai drinks, the mango version features multiple ingredients and has a reputation as an ideal pool side drink. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1/2 shot sweetened lime juice
  • 1 shot grenadine
  • 1 shot amaretto
  • 1 shot orange curacao
  • 1 shot mango rum
  • 4 shots pineapple juice
  • Cocktail Shaker
  • Shot glass
  • Hurricane or highball glass
  • Cocktail umbrella
  • Pineapple slice for garnish
  • Straw

Instructions

    • 1

      Combine the ingredients in a glass.

    • 2

      Pour the contents into the cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.

    • 3

      Strain the drink into a glass filled with ice. Garnish the glass with the pineapple slice and a cocktail umbrella.

Tips & Warnings

  • For the non-alcoholic version, substitute orgeat syrup or almond flavoring for the amaretto, orange juice for the orange curacao, and 1 tsp. of rum flavoring and 1 shot of mango nectar for the mango flavored rum.

  • Substituting orgeat syrup for the amaretto will increase the sweetness of the drink.

  • Do not drive after drinking.
