Things You'll Need:
- Tee shirt
- Scissors
- Chalk
- Iron
- Fabric glue
- Razor knife
-
Step 1
Lay the shirt flat on a smooth surface like a table. Smooth as many wrinkles and folds as possible. If you cut a wrinkled shirt, you will get a jagged cut and may ruin your design.
-
Step 2
Draw a design on your tee shirt, starting at the neckline. For a simple, feminine design, cut away the tee shirt's ribbing at the neck. Cut the shirt along the seam line. Cut the front edge into a scoop for a low-cut shirt. Mark the sleeves where you want to cut them. If you remove the ribbing and seams, the edges will roll up after washing.
-
Step 3
Cut out along your sleeve marks with a sharp pair of scissors. Try to keep the edges as smooth as possible. Use a razor knife on a cutting surface for intricate designs. Trim any rough edges so they are clean and straight.
-
Step 4
Iron the edges of your cuts under 1/2 inch to create a hem and keep the fabric from fraying. Secure the ironed hems with a little fabric glue.
-
Step 5
Add embellishments. Write your favorite phrase with a fabric marker, or apply beads and buttons.
