Instructions

Purchase thank you notes, usually quite affordable for a pack of eight or 10 at a discount store, or make your own cards out of cardstock. They don't have to be fancy, unless you want to have some fun displaying your scrap booking skills.

Think first before writing. What can you say to convey your gratitude to the person? Are you thanking them for a favor or service? Did they give you a gift for a party, wedding or other event? Did they visit you when you were ill? Think about how you felt when you received the person's kindness, and come up with words that convey those feelings.

Once you begin writing, you don't have to create a mini-novel. Keep the message relatively short while making it personal. Thank the giver for the specific item or thing that was done. For example, if it was a gift, tell them how you are using it, or how you enjoy it. If they provided a service, tell them how that made your day brighter. If they attended an event, describe how happy you felt to see them there. Acknowledge the generosity of the giver and how their assistance improved your situation.

Mail the thank you notes, or hand deliver them if paying for postage is a financial burden and the note recipients live nearby.
