Make a Mosaic with CDs

Do you have a pile of old CDs laying around? Many of us have AOL CDs as well as various other promotional CDs, as well as old Burned CDs, and CDs beyond repair. You can make wonderful Mosaic art, decorate table tops, or create unique picture frames with these CDs.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Old CDs
  • A Hammer
  • Cloth Bag
  • Scissors
  • Glue or Rubber Cement
  • Flat Surface
  1. Step 1

First, you need old CDs. Ask your friends or family for their old CDs, or go through your collection. If you really want to do this project, buy a stack of CD-Rs on sale. Once you have your CDs, prepare to smash them.

  2. Step 2

You will want to cover your CDs with a cloth before you smash them with a hammer. You will want to do this on a flat surface, and probably outside so that the shards do not go all over your house. However, you can use a pair of sharp scissors to cut the CDs into various shapes such as triangles and squares.

  3. Step 3

Choose what flat surface you would like to glue the CDs onto. You can use a tabletop or a piece of wood to make artwork. You can also use an old picture frame to glue the shards onto. The possibilities are endless when it comes to designing with CDs.

  4. Step 4

If you have a designs on the back of your CDs, they can make an interesting piece. You can also color the CD pieces with a Sharpie marker to create different color designs. This is a great project for children, as long as they are supervised during this project.

Tips & Warnings
