Instructions

    • 1

Spray an all-purpose cleaner on an inconspicuous spot on the wall and clean it thoroughly with a rag. It should be as clean as possible for the best paint color match.

    • 2

Take a chip of paint off the cleaned area. Make sure it is at least the size of two quarters, or about a 2-by-2-inch piece. To get it off without tearing the surface of the sheet rock with it, use a razor blade to peel it off. You'll be able to paint over this spot once you get the new paint.

Take the sample to a paint or hardware store. Most hardware stores that sell paint have a computer that will analyze the paint pigments. The major home improvement store chains also can do this. After they analyze the paint, they will be able to match that exact color.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is best to go to the same store that you bought the original paint if you can.
