Things You'll Need:
- 2 c. Epsom salts
- 1 c. Sea salt or rock salt
- 1/4 t. Glycerin
- 3-5 drops of red food coloring
- 1-2 drops of essential oil
- Pretty glass jar with a lid
-
Step 1
Mix the Epsom salt together with the sea salt or rock salt.
-
Step 2
Once the salts are combined, stir in the glycerin, food coloring, and essential oil.
-
Step 3
After your bath salt ingredients have been thoroughly combined, spoon them into your jar and tightly secure the lid. If you do not tighten the lid, the smell will permeate the room.
-
Step 4
Lavender, orange, vanilla, peppermint, and rose essential oils all work great when making bath salts.
The rose, lavender, and vanilla essential oils are very relaxing bath salt scents, while orange and peppermint are very invigorating. -
Step 5
Look for pretty glass jars at antique shops. They come in a variety of shapes and colors.
-
Step 6
Homemade bath salts make great gifts. Create a pretty label or tag and attach it to your bath salt jar with a ribbon.
-
Step 7
Make sure you do not use too much essential oil because it is very strong and can hurt your skin in large amounts.
-
Step 8
Use the food coloring to create all sorts of colors or stick to the simple primary colors. To create purple, mix together a drop of red food coloring and a drop of blue food coloring. To create orange, mix red with yellow. To create a lovely teal color, mix blue with green.
