Step 1
Create a Facebook account if you don’t already have one. This consists only of supplying your name and email address. You can choose to use Facebook for all kinds of social networking, or use it strictly for the family reunion planning purposes.
-
Step 2
Look for other family members using the search feature and send friend requests to them. Once they “approve” you , you will be Facebook friends.
-
Step 3
Create a Facebook group just for the family reunion. Name it something that has to do with the reunion. You can make the group an open group (recommended for very large or extended families) or make it a closed group where members have to be approved.
-
Step 4
Invite family members who are your Facebook friends to be a member of the newly created group. You can also invite family members who don’t have Facebook accounts by entering their email addresses.
-
Step 5
Continue to build the group. As new family members join the Facebook group, ask them to invite others that they may be in contact with – either on Facebook or outside of it.
-
Step 6
You can plan the family reunion using a variety of Facebook communication techniques. These include writing on the group wall, starting a group discussion, or sending private messages to family members via Facebook.
-
Step 7
Once the details have been ironed out, use the same techniques listed above to communicate the specifics to the group members. You can also create a group event which will include all the specifics and allow others to RSVP.
-
Step 8
Use the group photos feature to post old photos of family members or reunions past to build excitement for the upcoming reunion. Once the reunion has taken place, post pictures on the group page and invite others to do the same.
-
Step 9
Encourage members of the family group to continue to invite family members into the group as they join Facebook. This will make planning future family reunions easier!
