A fresh, easy recipe for homemade spaghetti sauce that can slow cook in a crock pot all day long. You will love it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 lb. hamburger meat
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 3/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 crushed bay leaf
  • 28 oz. petite diced tomatoes
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregeno
  • 1/4 teaspoon basil
  • olives (optional)
  • mushrooms (optional)
  • bell pepper (optional)
  • pinch of sugar
  1. Step 1

Brown the hamburger meat on the stove top in two tablespoons of oil. Once it is almost done add the chopped onion and garlic to the meat and continue cooking until the onion is soft and the garlic well mixed.

  2. Step 2

Then dump the hamburger, garlic, and onion mixture into the crock pot.

  3. Step 3

Add 28 ounces of petite diced tomatoes, 6 ounces of tomato paste, and a 1/2 cup of water to the crock pot and mix with the hamburger meat.

  4. Step 4

Then add 1/4 teaspoon of salt, oregano and basil to taste (generally about a 1/4 teaspoon of each), the crushed bay leaf and continue to mix.

  5. Step 5

Finally, add whatever vegetables that you'd like to the sauce and mix as well. For example those could be olives, mushrooms, and bell peppers. These do not need to be sauteed. They can simply be added to the crock pot and will soften as they cook.

  6. Step 6

Stir all ingredients together and then allow to cook for 4-10 hours in the crock pot. You will want to stir occassionally throughout the day (once every couple of hours).

  7. Step 7

Make spaghetti noodles according to the packet directions and then top with spaghetti sauce. Enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use whole tomatoes in place of petite diced tomatoes. Just be sure that when chopped they equate to 28 ounces.
  • You can make it meatless by simply omitting the hamburger meat.
  • This sauce can be frozen and then defrosted and used at a later date. It tastes just as fresh.
  • This recipe can also be made stove top, by allowing it to simmer once all ingredients have been added.
