If your skin is dry and flaky, loofas can buff your skin until it is smooth. The loofah sponge, made from a South American vegetable, the luffa, is a natural plant grown from a loofah seed. Making one takes some patience. You have to wait for the loofah to grow in a warm climate to the size you wish before using it, but the results can be worthwhile. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Buy some luffa seeds. See the Resources below for links.
-
2
Plant the seeds at a time when no frost is imminent for at least 5 months. According to an article on GroovyGreen.com, frost will kill the plant, which will grow best in a warmer climate. The plant grows as a vine, so you will want to plant the seeds where they can crawl upward.

3
Expose your luffa plant to sunlight and a warmer climate.
-
4
Wait for it to grow to the desired length, which should take a few months. You can also wait until it dries out. You will still be able to use it then.
-
5
Peel the skin away from the luffa plant.
-
6
Clear out any seeds from the luffa plant by squeezing it and running water through its middle section. You can also allow it to soak in a warm water bath or a bit of bleach to remove any uneven coloring and further clean it off.

Tips & Warnings
For further cleanings, machine wash it on a gentle cycle. Allow it to dry naturally. You can also make a loofah sponge similar to those available at the store by buying soft taffeta at a craft store and gathering it into a ball using a needle and thread. Make sure to tie off the ball securely and use your loofah.
