Accidents happen when using Super Glue (or Krazy Glue, which uses the same strong adhesive). It can end up on a tabletop, counter or piece of fabric. Since Super Glue is a durable and strong glue, and bonds within seconds once exposed to the air, it may seem like an impossible task to remove it. Fortunately, with a little bit of patience and the right tools, you may be able to successfully clean and remove Super Glue from most surfaces.
Things You'll Need
- Acetone-based nail polish remover Cotton swab or paper towel Toothbrush or scraper Laundry stain remover Goo Gone Super Glue solvent
Wait until the Super Glue is dry. Soak a cotton swab or paper towel in acetone-based nail polish remover. Set it on the Super Glue and let it soak in for a few minutes. If the Super Glue is on a fabric surface, test the nail polish remover on an inconspicuous spot first to see if it causes the fabric to discolor. Skip to step three if you decide not to proceed with this method.
Scrub away the Super Glue with a toothbrush. If the glue is on hard surface, carefully scrape it away your fingernail or scraper. You may need to repeat these two steps until all the glue is removed.
Use fine sandpaper or an emory board if the glue remains. Do so gently so you do not damage the surface or fabric.
Clean the fabric or surface when finished. For fabric, treat the area with a stain remover before throwing it into the wash or washing it by hand (per label instructions).
Check the stain before placing the fabric into the dryer. You may need to repeat some steps or use Goo Gone or a Super Glue solvent sold in craft stores.
