Instructions

    • 1

Gather your ingredients for a Granny Smith apple pie: pre-made pie crust (package of two), 6 cups peeled and sliced Granny Smith apples, 1½ tbsp. lemon juice, ¾ cup packed brown sugar, ¼ cup white sugar, 2 tbsp. flour, 1 tsp. cinnamon, ¼ tsp. nutmeg, 2 tbsp. butter, 2 tbsp. milk and white sugar for sprinkling over the top of the pie.

    • 2

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.

    • 3

Place one of the pre-made pie crusts in the bottom of a pie plate.

    • 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the Granny Smith apples and lemon juice. Mix thoroughly.

    • 5

Add to the mixing bowl the sugars, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix together. Transfer to pie plate, putting on top of bottom layer of pie crust.

    • 6

Place the second pie crust on top of the apple mixture. Flute or use a fork to join the edges of both pie crusts together. Cut three slits, or other variation, into the top pie crust for steam venting.

    • 7

Brush the top crust with milk. Sprinkle white sugar over the pie crust. Bake the Granny Smith apple pie in your preheated oven for 20 minutes.

    • 8

Remove the pie from the oven and cover the outside, fluted edges with tin foil. Return the pie to the oven and bake for an additional 20 to 25 minutes. Remove the pie from the oven and cool 15 minutes before serving.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the crust is not covered for the remainder of the baking time, it will be overcooked.

Hi, thanks for the great recipe! While you didn't specify what to do with the butter, I assumed I needed to cut it into chunks and dollop it all over the filling before I added the second crust. Is that what you do?
