How to Create a Pillowcase Lizard Costume
This costume is for young children but can be modified for older children as well.
Things You'll Need
- RIT Dyes
- Fabric Paints
- Fabric-marking Pens
- Old Pillowcases
- Yarns
- Masks
- Scissors
- Construction Paper
- Staplers
- felt (green, red)

Find a green pillowcase and pair of tights - if you don't have either of these items you can dye some old white or light colored ones.

Draw scales or squiggly lines with a permanent marker.

Cut a jagged neck opening at seamed end and jagged armholes on each side.

Cut a 1 1/2-inch, U-shaped opening in center of hemmed end. This will create the legs.

String green yarn through hem casing of each leg. These will work as drawstrings when the child is in costume.

Cut tail from green felt and staple to hem of costume.

Draw a large figure eight on a piece of paper and cut along outside edge and use as a mask pattern.

Place pattern on green felt and cut out then cut out eye and nose holes.

Draw a mouth on felt with a permanent marker.

Poke holes on each side of mask and add yarn ties.

Cut a forked tongue from red felt and staple onto mask.

Add your green tights along with green or brown shoes and you have a lizard costume.

Tips & Warnings
Do not use a mask on a very young child. A young child could suffocate.
