Instructions

  1. Hanging a towel bar

    • 1

Measure the towel bar's length, from one mount to the other.

    • 2

Locate two wall studs the right distance apart, so that both mounts can be installed in a stud. Mark off the distance on the wall with a pencil. Towels, especially wet towels, can add a lot of weight, so you have to install the towel bar in a secure spot on the wall. If you can't find two studs at the right distance apart, you can hang the towel bar using drywall anchors.

    • 3

Screw the first mount into place. It will be difficult to re-adjust this mount after you've finished without dismantling the towel bar, so screw it in tight.

    • 4

Place the level above the first mount you've installed. Mark off the spot where you'll be installing your second mount, making sure that it is exactly level with the first bracket.

    • 5

Screw the second mount into place. Before you secure it tightly, use the level to double-check that they are at the same height, and re-measure the distance between them.

    • 6

Snap the towel bar onto the mounts. Check to make sure it is firmly secured.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have a stud finder, you can approximate a stud's location by tapping your knuckles against the wall in different places. Spots without a stud will have a lower, more hollow sound, while spots with a stud will sound higher and clearer.
