There is a special technique to cutting a pomegranate. You should follow these steps since the juice can stain your hands and clothes if you are not careful. Instructions

    • 1

Look for the crown of the pomegranate. This is the spiked top on one end. Cut the very top portion of the pomegranate off.

    • 2

Cut the pomegranate into several vertical sections.

    • 3

Place each section into a large bowl of water.

    • 4

With the fruit section under water, pull the pulp covered seeds (arils) away from the membrane and into the water. Throw away the membrane and skin. Continue with the rest of the sections until the entire pomegranate has been cut and the arils removed.

    • 5

Pour the entire contents of the bowl into the colander to strain off the water. Pull any loose bits of white membrane out of the arils. Use the crunchy, juicy arils as a topping for cereal, salads or in your favorite pomegranate recipe (see Resources).
