How to Clean Electric Razors
Both men and women use electric razors to prevent the chance of cuts and abrasions commonly experienced with disposable razors. These convenient shaving devices can't be used with water, but instead are used to shave the skin while it's dry. As a result, tiny bits of hair get embedded into the razor's blades and decrease the efficiency and smoothness of the shave. Regular maintenance prevents damage to the blades and helps keep your electric razor in the best condition possible for long use and effective shaves. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Electric razor cleaning fluid or mild soap
- Soft, bristled brush
- Electric razor lubricant
Instructions
-
-
1
Unplug the razor from the electrical outlet, and remove batteries from any battery-operated appliances as a safety measure to prevent injury since you will be exposing the sharp blades of the razor.
-
2
Remove the razor head (it looks like a screen). Use the soft brush to remove any particles from the screen. Blow into it to remove dust and debris.
-
-
3
Soak the screen in a solution of mild soapy water or electric razor cleaner.
-
4
Examine the cutter heads below the screen of the razor for rusting and cracks. Use the soft brush to remove any hair or debris. You can remove the cutter heads in some model shavers by removing a surrounding gasket. If possible, remove the cutters and place the blades into the solution with the screens to soak.
-
5
Check the inside of the razor for loose components or damage to any of the many small parts inside the razor.
-
6
Rinse and pat dry the cutter heads and screen. Allow these items to air-dry completely before attempting to reassemble the razor.
-
7
Install the cutter heads (and gasket, if necessary). Spray electric razor lubricant between the blades and screen heads to keep the razor in top working condition.

Tips & Warnings
Plug in the razor and give it a test run, making sure all parts are working correctly. Consider blade replacement if the blades show damage. Many electric razors have gaskets that need to be carefully wiped clean with a damp cloth. A rubberized gasket may need replacement if it becomes brittle or breaks.
Never attempt to clean an electric razor (or any appliance) while it is plugged into an electrical supply.
