1
Stick with either neutral colors such as tans, grays and creams, or go with a careful balance of bright colors. Stay away from pink or baby blue. If using bright colors, go with green, yellow and other gender-neutral colors.
-
2
Choose traditional, classic furniture that both of the room's occupants will enjoy. Stay away from anything too masculine, such as steel, or too feminine, such as intricately carved wood.
-
-
3
Use high-quality linens that have clean lines or classic patterns, such as stripes, plaids, or solids. This includes window treatments. Anything too heavy or frilly should not be used.
-
4
Decorate with photos. Photos are a great way to personalize a room, yet keep it gender-neutral. Black and white photos are especially elegant and decorative.
-
5
Find common ground. Think of something you both enjoy, and decorate that. For example, in the case of children, you could do a theme based on their favorite animals.
